Satwaves has learned that Sirius XM Radio (SIRI) will be hosting a Holiday Gift Event to introduce its new lineup of Sirius XM Radios and accessories on Wednesday, August 26th, 2009. Satwaves will have a representative on hand at the media event which is by invitation only.
Keeping to his word, Sirius XM Radio CEO Mel Karmazin spoke of new products and accessories that would be announced by the end of August during the second quarter earnings release news conference. The event is reminiscent of a time when Sirius XM Radio was able to generate excitement in the retail channel, and Satwaves is proud to be able to bring you this news as it happens. Satwaves will plan on live event coverage as permitted. More details as they develop…

except wednesday august 18th doesnt exist… : ) so is it tuesday teh 18th? or wednesday the 19th? or neither because the image you posted states Wednesday, August 26th…
none the less very excited to hear about this!
@steve roose
cool. the 26th. thnx
Now THIS is what I’m talking about! Creating some buzz and excitement similar to what Apple does with their “events”. This is cool.
And makes it even more obvious that Sirius needs to MARKET this “cool” factor more. They have a GREAT product, but they need to advertise it to the masses better. Nothing works on the psychology of the masses more than successfully marketing and making your product seem “cool”.
The fact is Sirius IS a COOL product. It just has to be marketed better. Hopefully this is just the beginning. I want to see a great TV campaign soon. At the very least…they BETTER have an ad playing during the Super Bowl. By that point, it will have been nearly 2 years since he companies merged. It’s about time. And I can think of no better place to “kick off” a new TV ad campaign.
By January, we should have 2 more great quarters under our belt. I see no reason why they can’t afford ONE ad to run during the big game. In my mind, they can’t afford NOT to.
Anyway…this Holiday event is intriguing. Looking forward to it.
My guess is we’ll see a docking station that allows you to dock your iphone and receive a sat signal. This would help solve the Howard/Football/Baseball not being included in the iphone app issue. You’ll be able to dock your iphone and receive it all.
“radio’s” doesn’t require an apostrophe. Shoudl be “radios”.
im ready for satellite capable devices
are you?
Shhhhhh… Don’t tell everyone about our new products, just invite a couple folks. Great Plan!?
NOT ONE BUMPER STICKER SEEN – YET! and I have been driving everywhere this summer!!! We now have an on going game in the car. If anyone sees one – They get 10 bucks!
NOT ONE!!!!
Not one mention of Sirius/XM at ANY music festivals – NONE.
Not one T-shirt to buy…. and now, we don’t want to invite too many people to the new product launch? Give me a break.
They should stream the event “LIVE” like Apple does.
And I agree with the poster above, SiriusXM should be MORE aggressive in music festivals and concerts. Although to be honest, I haven’t been to any live events lately….so I don’t know for sure. Just what I’ve heard.
Content is where Sirius Rules. And live concerts and interviews are BIG deals. Especially now where it is SO easy for people to download music for free. More people are going to concerts. Sirius can do things with live coverage that Pandora NEVER could….and they should exploit this better.
iphone guy…get over it…the new products will be announced in every major news publication around the world….
if you want a tshirt, spend a dollar…here’s the link…

I bought my wife’s Sportster 5 receiver at Car Toys & inside the box is a bumper sticker. Nothing fancy, just a simple square w/ the Sirius puppy logo on it. It is proudly displayed on my wife’s Saturn Vue. I guess the “iphoneguy” owes me $10 bucks! You can make the donation to Satwaves Mr. iphoneguy.

since you are calling people out…try spelling should correctly!
@Teacher
Brandon- everyone wants things yesterday! instant gratification! Like a $1 share price!
SIRI is now trading from technical strength – for good reasons, given all recently emerging positive fundamentals and the prospect of more aggressive marketing in the future. All chart formations are now positive based upon the rounded bottom that formed from October ‘08 through the upside break of .50 last week. Expectations that revenues will benefit significantly from the resurgent auto sector (demand and production) remain dominant, as satellite radio installation will definitely be a preferrred option for a great percentage of new buyers in coming years.
This should keep the SIRI’s technical framework strong into the 3rd and 4th Qtr. releases, due in November and February. Potential remains indicated toward .75 by November and 1.00+ over the next six months to one year.
Anticipation of this product releast should also boost the stock price into next Tuesday.
How big will this rumored iphone/sat docking station be? Too cumbersome to walk around with? Will it just be for the car or home?
One word…. Exciting
Sirius XM really needs a rugged boom box. Not the lame plug and play speaker systems from the past.
I’d also like to see AV Receivers that can stream from the Internet. I recently Bought a Sony receiver that supports Sirius and XM, but I have to buy some kind of lame adapter than no one carries. Why not just support their channels via Internet?
Id also like to see them miniturizr their receivers. The should be able to make them as small as GPS reveivers. I know it won’t happen this time, but Microsoft missed the boat with the new Zune, as it supports the lame HD radio format (who the hell wants to listen to high def comercials?). They should have gone with a Sat radio Zune. Or even better. Provide free mobile service with built in access to their sat radio? provide sat radio for free to customers but provide a reveneue stream by allowing listener to buy songs they hear (like the iphone app). or how about Zune Pass with Sirius XM for $12 er month, but keep 10 songs forever? There is soooo much missed opportunity.
Overall, the Sirius hardware needs a technology refresh. The same hardware with a cosmetic refresh doesn’t work for me.
NEWS: The SEC is closer to instituting rules restricting short selling – see all details via Google. This will definitely benefit SIRI – as the stock has been severely pressured by unencumbered and naked short sales in the past and a large outstanding short interest continues. Shorts will eventually have to be covered and pending restrictions on new short selling will make this covering more difficult in the future.
