Let Him Without Sirius XM Sin Cast The First Stone

By Brandon Matthews

From websites that all but guarantee Sirius XM Radio (SIRI) would lose over 300,000 subscribers last quarter while promising accurate information compared to Satwaves (as we continue to wait patiently for Sarah Palin’s new Sirius XM channel) to other writers who wrongly called for Sirius XM to lose 1.6 million subscribers this year and which inaccurately report Sirius XM’s $3 billion in debt as 9$billion in debt,  it seems that I have now become the target of writers all over the Internet. That’s not surprising in light of the fact that we get more things right here at Satwaves than any other form of media. It’s not easy keeping up with the ever changing landscape of Sirius XM Radio. Like spiders waiting for a fly, these writers have been reduced to commentators of Satwaves articles, pouncing on any perceived inaccuracy as a means to promote their own agendas, hoping to remove the speck from my eye, while they have a plank in their own.

Like armchair quarterbacks they sit in their chairs thinking they can do better than the guy on the field. They reply to the the research that we at Satwaves provide them with, seemingly unable to think for themselves. Truly, I am honored. It’s not often that a website like the Motley Fool or a writer like Rick Aristotle Munarriz would take the time to write an article about me and Satwaves. I do appreciate the kind words but alas, I must now respond in kind to the negative slant that was published. Maybe I deserved it. Some of the other writers here have certainly been critical of Rick in the past. Maybe this is his way of paying back for their misdeeds.

Criticism is good. Welcomed. I love debate. Normally, I would not respond to an article that is no more than a comment on an article that I wrote. At least he didn’t run over to the yahoo message boards like a little worm like some others I have to deal with. I focus on Sirius XM news and feel guilty about using this forum to respond to an article and becoming that which I have so much contempt for. Unfortunately, when someone who has been so wrong, so many times and on so many topics as Rick Munarriz criticizes me publicly, the gloves come off.

Now I’m sure that the fact that I dismissed Sirius XM’s minor debt load relative to its industry hit some right between the eyes. After all, a Motley Fool search reveals 476 results for Sirius and Debt. If debt is removed as an issue, what will they write about? The very point of comparing subscription based services was to point out that the business model works as opposed to comparing Sirius XM to a media company like Clear Channel. These companies require a large outflow of cash to build infrastructure resulting in high initial debt until such time as revenue exceeds those costs and debt can be repaid. Sirius XM is on the cusp now and as such makes it a much better bet now than it was ever in its history. Buy low and sell high is not a new concept. As Rick correctly points out, these comparable companies with longer histories are money making machines.

2009-09-03_2229As for the revenue projection, I’m  going to swallow that one. I did not source the data and I am unable to locate it at this time. I may have taken that number from projected earnings growth, which stands at 67% or possibly data comparing 2008-2009. I still believe that information can be found in one of the dozens of analyst reports that I review, but I’ll let you have that one. I’m not perfect. Even at just under 10% revenue growth, it still dwarfs the projections of others in the space, with only Direct TV posting a distant second.

Leaving aside the over 200 articles published by the Motley Fool that suggested Sirius XM faced potential or inevitable bankruptcy which never occurred, or their reporting of Sirius XM paying 15% in Liberty related interest after the company had exchanged all of that debt for lower interest debt just a few weeks ago,  I will completely ignore the Fool’s completely wrong assessment of the Sirius XM SkyDock. I could go on all day! My message to Rick…Do you really want to go there? I’ve got a lot more ammo to work with than the few concerns brought up by your attempt at bashing me.

In fact, here’s an olive branch to move us forward. I appreciate all sides. It is the reason I allow writers from anywhere to submit articles on Satwaves. Diversity of opinion is the foundation of Satwaves. You make your best BEAR pitch and I’ll make my best BULL pitch and we can cross market them on each others news forums. We can then rebut the others argument. Then we can switch roles in a month. Balls in your court.

Well written. Well Rick? Take Mr. Matthews up on his offer? Probably not, as your boss, the “Fool” probably will not let you do it, as they do not want any opinion but theirs on their site. Too bad, as a nice discussion could ensue, not war, but discussion. Alas.

    Joc.

  • I found Rick’s article actually fairly balanced, though the title “Sirius Delusions” is a bit unnecessary. Brandon, he did tip his hat to you by referring to your work. Not nearly the big “bashing” I was expecting to read.
It’s refreshing to read respectful debate like this without the childish tirades that are all too often filling up forums on the ‘net.
Keep up the good work guys!

  • Responsibility says:

The difference between Mootley Fools and Satwaves is fundamental. Mootley Fools is suppose to be a unbaised broad market focused investor news wire, right? If I’m wrong, please correct me. Satwaves is a SiriusXM focused website. Baised? Maybe at times, but really in response to the literal daily bash by Mootley and Cramer who have access to a far larger audience. Who goes to Satwaves? Only people that know about Satwaves. When Satwaves has an opinion it is not immediately posted under the siri ticker with a constant bullish headline. When Satwaves has an opinion it is not broadcast on CNBC to millions of viewers who didn’t neccessary tune in to hear about SiriusXM. So this really comes down to responsibility. If you know that you have access to a vast audience and if you are said to be balanced and unbaised, and if you are said to be focused on a very broad market, then isn’t it irresponsible to either trend too hard in one direction with opinions and also visit one topic too often? It seems the answer to that question is pretty obvious. However if your website was built for and is headlined as Satwaves “SiriusXM News, Opinion and Discussion Forum” and you don’t have an audience unless they know about you and your comments are only broadcast to people who take the time out to visit a website that is quite obviously focused on one topic, then is it no surprise that the opinion is in support of the topic it’s based on? Not to mention that Satwaves focus on one topic and Mootley Fools and Cramer’s visit to one topic, literally compells Satwaves to spend an enormous amount of energy responding to the comments and articles published and spoken daily to a vast audience, but does so only to people that tune into Satwaves, which is once again clearly a one topic focused website.

This is like a high school newsletter trying to debunk what Glenn Beck says on Fox to millions of people or what Keith Obermannn says on MSNBC to millions of people and calling it a fair fight. No disrespect intended to Satwaves, really just pointing out that how could Glenn or Keith bash the high school newsletter and possibly call it a fair fight. If I have a TV show or a radio show or the ability to have my articles posted under a stock symbol in real time or similar, I could quite literally say the sky is green and if I do it enough it will eventually force people to wonder if the sky is green after all.

There is a difference here that is mind blowing. And opinions aside, there is an abuse of responsibily, an abuse of pulpit that is a seperate topic than that of the opinion itself. Meaning, it would be just as abusive for Mootley or Cramer to be bull bull bull on siri all the time everyday.

Brandon, This is great that fool writing for the Motley Fool has written an article directly attacking the “great” work you and SATWAVES have been doing. This kind of controversy will bring more and more attention to the real turnaround story that is SIRIUS XM. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to get the truth out and at the same time exposing these bashers for what they they really are. You have been doing that Brandon and the truth will prevail! Now, if only you can get Cramer to start addressing your work…ah…the possibilities. The “facts” don’t lie and it shows that you have done your homework! Keep up the great work!

  • Ken Brady says:

Hmm, wondering if maybe you are being a tad sensitive on this one, Brandon. The Fool seems, in general, through his tone, to be conceding most of the points of your post. And he’s also, very subtly, supporting what you have been trumpeting for quite a while now. So, in a big sense, he is leaving the field to you. His only caveat is the revenue estimates, which you’ve already conceded anyway. I think your “challenge” could be off putting. As each month passes, your pioneer statements prove true. In the future, perhaps, your stance should shift from “rebellious outsider” to “prescient sage”. This shift of yours in status (and tone) may leave you the expert or go-to guy that CNBC and others will turn to. You have won the battle of ideas, in an extremely competitive and contentious arena and time period. Now, plan on the next step, when your views become codified into the status quo and you will be looked to in order to provide continued, forward-thinking ideas and analysis. My highest compliments.

I just want to let all know that today….looks like the Rating Agency’s ( Moodey’s & S&P ) can no longer hide under the protection of the 1st Amendment as a judge made the ruling that Fraud charges can move forwrd against them.

This is the start of making people accountable for their inaccurate actions. I can only hope this ruling moves forward to the likes of the Motley Fool and a writer called Rick Aristottle Munariz, who has writtern hundreds of mis-leading articles about Sirius XM radio in just the past 6 months. I will be reporting him next week and can only hope that it will be the start of making people and the people that pay Rick Aristotle Munariz accountable for their actions in mis-leading investors for their own personal agenda.

The facts are in their articles and their numerous and erroneous Headlines. I can only hope that they investigate the actions of the Motley Fools & the street dot com’s of the World. At least today was a start in history in breaking ground to filing fraud charges against these writers. no more 1st amendment protection if they are lieing to the people for personal agenda’s. It could start to get very interesting. stay tuned.

Brandon, Time to face facts…. You are becoming more popular and relevant to both your immediate audience and the hords of people that are starting to peak under the hood of this equity. A bit of controversey always comes with that turf. You were always an entertaining writer, but since you have put your pencil to the grindstone and focused more on the detail that underlies your theories, you have become hard to dismiss, so you have your critics. Stay the course & your influence & the influence of Satwaves will rise right along with the SP. Have a good Labor Day…….

1st Amendment rules. No longer will writers lke Rick Aristottle Munariz be able to hide from the 1st amendment protection.

This week a judge rules against Moodey & the S & P ratings as they are liable to be sued for their false and misleading statements.

This case is exactly like the Rick Aristottle Munarriz case that will be filed against him. The evidence is his only writings and especially his constant false and mis-leading headlines.

Justice will be served in the near future. I just hope they follow the money trail from Aristottle’s bank accounts to find out who has been paying him to contantly write and bash Sirius XM Radio for at least the past 10 months since I’ve been around.

This Motley Fool writer Rick Aristottle Munarriz will be found guilty based on his own articles and false hadlines. Now how funny is that, but finally justice we be given to true investors who deserve the truth to be told to them, good or bad, not the non-sense this man has done the past year.
