Blackberry (RIMM) users and Satellite Radio fans may have reason to rejoice in the coming weeks. Several days ago, a reader forwarded me a press release that indicates that the new flagship Blackberry Bold 9700 will deliver Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI), which until now could only be accessed by using other means.

Operating on Bell Mobility’s state-of-the-art HSPA wireless network, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smart-phone will also deliver great Bell Mobility mobile data services including GPS location, Live TV, SIRIUS Satellite Radio and Unlimited NHL

This does appear to be a new application that is pending, in that existing Blackberry users have access only to 20 select channels through the XM service, at a cost of 7.99 per month.

It seems as word began spreading through Sirius XM discussion forums, a potential roadblock was met in determining where the 9700 would be sold. After reading the release, I was skeptical in that consideration had to made that this was a “Canada only” offering rather than a phone that would be sold in the United States. Further research reveals that:

The 3G, Wi-FI capable GSM phone will be heading to carriers around the world in the next few weeks, making stops at both AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States.

Other news releases indicate the Blackberry Bold 9700 arrival in the US will occur sometime in November. A search of Blackberry apps reveals no Sirius apps currently available, leading me to believe that a new app for the Blackberry may be announced in the coming month.

It is clear that Sirius XM has begun to make bold moves in the smart-phone arena, with its introductions of both an Apple (AAPL) iPhone app and the the revolutionary new XM SkyDock which enables iPhones and iPod Touch devices to be used as fully functioning Satellite Radios. The next logical steps would be Blackberry and Android applications. I had not expected to see these apps come to fruition this year, but this press release indicating that Sirius is coming to Blackberry, has me second guessing that belief.

Position: Long SIRI

Thanks, Brandon, for bringing this to our attention. There is no doubt that the explosion in smartphones and new wireless devices presents a fantastic opportunity for Sirius XM to expand distribution along these platforms into the future. The opportunity is now clearly here – in turn, all it will take to achieve this potential is for Sirius XM to properly execute – innovation, content, distribution and marketing – with all these areas firing on all cylinders. If the company executes well – and does not get distracted by the constant barrage of naysayers – the future will look exceedingly bright for all investors. The potential is really building – now it is time for execution.

This could be great news for the upcoming report! I still wonder what they were thinking with that first offering to Blackberry users..it was a total joke. Now, if they can offer the same deal they offer with the iphone app this blackberry app will be a great thing. Obviously, it won;t have Stern, and live sports and that is fine. SIRIUS XM needs to sell more retail radios and have subscribers have the option of paying $2.95 more for premium internet radio on their iphones, blackberrys;to make most of the satelite stations mobile. If this article is correct…Blackberry users can drive to work with SIRIUS XM in their car..listen to everything…then when they get out of their car, they can still listen to most of XM’S programming. It takes the “My commute isnt long enough to pay for radio” reason away. Now they can listen at work, or anytime with these new applications….Makes $15.00 a month a lot more doable. Suzan Boyel, You have to be more creative with your posts…If you are going to be negative, at least put some thought behind it.
Would it ever be possible for a Blackberry dock? can blackberrys support the technology? interesting

Susan, I’m a little confused. If you have no interest in Siri then why are you commenting about it? Really, there are lots of other stocks in this world that might better suit your time and energy. Hmmmmm, could you be motivated by some clandestine activity???? I’m sick of people like you who are doing their very best to keep this stock down. You’re within your right to express an opinion but perhaps you would like to elaborate as to why Siri is such a dredge, devoid of future potential. Or Maybe you are siridoom trying to get in touch with his feminine side.

Some excellent news, everyone: I just received a new Grace wireless/internet tabletop radio and when I called to get some help with the activation, I was speaking with a Sirius XM tech (Mark – located in Nova Scotia). After he helped me with the setup, we talked a bit about business in general and he said it was very active on all fronts – lots of new orders, strong interest from iPhone users ordering the install – strong interest in SkyDock, busy with OEM’s and auto installations, etc. I asked him if this was different from a few months ago and he said definitely – yes – whereas in the past most of his calls were troubleshooting, etc. – now most are new orders, new radios, etc. He mentioned the new satellite as a definite plus, and – in general – he was very positive about increasing business flows on all fronts – a definite pickup in demand.

Blackberry app, iphone, skydock – when will Mel get everyone on one set of birds. Im hesitant to get a new car until I know my in dash receiver is the end-all be all. CEOs of SIRI and Liberty betting on devices into cigarette lighters and paying 2.95 or whatever here and they’re..let’s go, lets get a real single network, one/dual in dash receiver, and a dock for smartphones. Phillies in 5!

Great content but the transmission medium is all over the place (which is ultimately good) but lets get it consistent to the put the manufacturing is only for vehicles. Everything else goes into car/home dock. Let apple and google OS do the rest of the work

Vaguely related to above, but just vaguely. Visited a BestBuy in Manhattan yesterday (Upper East Side, 86th and Lex), and the Skydock display was nice, not hidden away in some locked up display case. Also (I swear), someone stopped by, played around with the Skydock, then walked away. My point being that the display brought a little positive action.

Just for fun, today in went to the BestBuy.com website to see if stores are stocking the Skydock. Just for fun, I went to the page listing Skydocks and put in zip codes to see if it was in stock in various stores. I put in zip codes in upstate New York, and various zip codes in New Jersey and Connecticut. It was a joy to see “In Stock” for all dozens of stores brought up as being near zip codes I put in. Only one store in New York City was “out of stock,” but this was only one of dozens of stores mentioned from my search.

    We’re on our way!

Strange. Why would Blackberry announce a Sirius app and not Sirius announcing? Something doesn’t connect here. Is this going to be similar to that 20 channel XM offering on Blackberry??? This doesn’t sound like the Premium online Apple app to me. Anybody have any more info on this?
