Sirius XM’s (SIRI) SkyDock is getting some glowing praise from the Consumer Electronics Association. The XM SkyDock was showered with many accolades. Awarded one of the highest scores, the XM SkyDock was a 2010 Best of Innovations Honoree in the In-Vehicle Audio product category and a Innovations 2010 Design and Engineering Award honoree.
Sean Gibbons, Vice President, Product Marketing, After Market Division, SIRIUS XM Radio said that “SIRIUS XM continues to be recognized as a leader in developing innovative products that allow subscribers to conveniently access our great programming, providing the richest and most compelling entertainment listening experience available today.”
The XM SkyDock takes advantage of Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch 3.0 OS update’s ability to communicate with external devices. With a simple download of a free app from the Apple iTunes App Store, every iPhone and iPod touch out on the street can be turned into a full-fledged satellite radio, capable of receiving the full satellite channel line-up — including the NFL, MLB and Howard Stern. While docked, the SkyDock also charges an iPhone or iPod Touch.
The XM SkyDock utilizes Sirius XM’s new PowerConnect FM modulator technology, which broadcasts the signal through a vehicle’s existing audio system. This facilitates the ease of moving the device between multiple vehicles. An Aux In Cable is also included, for use in vehicles with an Aux In connection.
The XM SkyDock will be spotlighted at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International Consumer Electronics Show on Tuesday, January 5th. The 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show runs January 7-10, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The XM Skydock is available now at online stores and retail locations nationwide — including the Apple Store.

This is important in many ways. It goes right to the tech geeks who spread the word on something that is new and exciting (something that Sirius Xm is not known for on the tech equip. side) and it is most likely “user friendly”. That means it’s a low anxiety level product hardware for the baby boomers to navigate. So the award’s timing for the X-mass season coming up is a true positive. Let alone the respect the retailers will know give this product, which hopefully puts it in a more viewable area in their stores.
Certainly a beautiful product and a natural add-on for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch wherever they are sold. Radio Shack and Best Buy should have a field day with this combination. The awards and praise from the Consumer Electronics Association should also enhance the credibility of SkyDock within the Apple Store. One more important step forward for Sirius XM.
Any word on when we will see a Sirius Sky Dock for the Droid and other similar devices mel said mid November we would see something new ?
